Microcalorimetry on Metastable Beta Phase Alloys Subjected to Applied Stress

چکیده
The development of a High Sensitivity Scanning Stress Microcalorimeter for the study of martensitic phase transformations in beta phase CuAlNi single crystal tensile specimens is described. The design of this system is discussed with reference to an earlier version. The values of calorimetric sensitivity reported for the new system represent a significant improvement over the prototype and a comparison is d e . More significantly, the new sensitivity values compare directly with those reported for stress free instruments employing similar detectors indicating that many of the problems associated with calorimetric measurements under stress have been considerably reduced.

Due to recent concern about allergic and toxic effects of Ni ions released from TiNi alloy into human body, much attention has been focused on the development of new Ni-free, metastable beta-type biomedical titanium alloys with a reversible phase transformation between the beta phase and the alpha'' martensite. This study investigates the effect of the stress-induced alpha'' martensite on the m...
متن کاملSelection of metal ion irradiation for controlling Ti1-xAlxN alloy growth via hybrid HIPIMS/magnetron co-sputtering
We demonstrate, for the first time, the growth of metastable single-phase NaCl-structure high-AlN-content Ti1-xAlxN alloys (x ≤ 0.64) which simultaneously possess high hardness and low residual stress. The films are grown using a hybrid approach combining high-power pulsed magnetron (HPPMS/HIPIMS) and dc magnetron sputtering of opposing metal targets. With HIPIMS applied to the Al target, Al n+...
متن کاملReversion Process in FCC Ising System
Reversion phenomena in the FCC Ising system was investigated using the kinetic Ising model. The results were compared with the experimental results obtained for the metastable G.P. zones in Al-Zn binary alloys. The present simulations have made it clear that the kinetic Ising model can qualitatively well reproduce the structure change during reversion in the Al-Zn metastable system. Comparison ...
متن کاملPhase relations and precipitation in Al–Mg–Si alloys with Cu additions§
Application prospects in automotive industry have led to extensive studies on 6xxx alloys in recent years. These alloys often contain Cu in varying amounts. This leads to the formation of the quaternary Al–Mg–Si–Cu family of alloys that may exist either as a 6xxx or a 2xxx alloy. These alloys have distinctive properties in part due to the occurrence of a phase, designated as Q, which is stable ...
